Wasm has emerged as a lightweight, cross-platform & secure runtime for microservices. However, modern microservices require a large network of support infrastructure services, such as databases, messaging queues, service discovery, load balancing etc. Wasm lacks many features, drivers, and libraries to integrate into today’s infra ecosystem. Dapr (a CNCF project) is a universal sidecar that integrates and connects over 100+ microservices infra services. It provides services to microservices that connect to the sidecar via the Dapr SDK. The WasmEdge and Dapr communities collaborated to adopt the Dapr Rust SDK to Wasm. This allows any Rust-based microservices to access 100+ Dapr compatible services when they are compiled to Wasm and deployed in WasmEdge. In this talk, we will discuss the design and implementation of the WasmEdge Dapr SDK and the future directions of this project. We will show practical examples and real-world use cases of Wasm microservices enabled by Dapr.
